Background of the Study
Collaborative learning, a teaching approach where students work together to solve problems, share knowledge, and discuss concepts, has gained prominence in educational settings as an effective strategy to enhance student engagement and academic achievement. In nursing education, collaborative learning offers opportunities for students to learn from one another, develop critical thinking skills, and improve teamwork—all of which are essential in the healthcare environment (Kwaku et al., 2024). Studies have shown that nursing students who engage in collaborative learning tend to have better academic outcomes, increased motivation, and greater confidence in their abilities (Chukwu et al., 2023).

Kogi State College of Nursing has integrated collaborative learning strategies into its nursing curriculum in an attempt to foster an environment that promotes active participation and knowledge exchange among students. This approach aims to develop not only academic skills but also interpersonal and communication abilities, which are critical in clinical settings. The impact of this teaching method on nursing students' engagement and academic achievement is not well-documented, especially within the context of Kogi State. This study seeks to investigate how collaborative learning influences nursing students’ academic performance and engagement at Kogi State College of Nursing, with a view to determining its effectiveness as a teaching method.

Statement of the Problem
While collaborative learning is widely acknowledged as a beneficial teaching approach, its specific impact on nursing students' engagement and academic achievement at Kogi State College of Nursing has not been fully explored. There is a need for research that evaluates whether this approach improves students’ learning experiences and enhances their academic success, particularly in the context of nursing education.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the impact of collaborative learning on nursing students’ engagement at Kogi State College of Nursing.

2. To evaluate the relationship between collaborative learning and academic achievement in nursing students.

3. To explore students’ perceptions of collaborative learning as a teaching method.

Research Questions

1. How does collaborative learning impact nursing students' engagement at Kogi State College of Nursing?

2. What is the relationship between collaborative learning and academic achievement in nursing students?

3. How do nursing students perceive collaborative learning as a teaching method?

Research Hypotheses

1. Collaborative learning significantly improves nursing students’ engagement at Kogi State College of Nursing.

2. There is a positive relationship between collaborative learning and academic achievement in nursing students.

3. Nursing students have positive perceptions of collaborative learning as a teaching method.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on nursing students enrolled in the nursing program at Kogi State College of Nursing. Limitations may include variability in the implementation of collaborative learning methods and the subjective nature of students' perceptions.
